Kosa Industry in Korba

 

Korba is one of the major Kosa Producing Districts in Chhattisgarh state. Near about 2000 tribal people of Korba are getting the benefits of the various Sericulture activities. The major activities concerned are rearing, reeling, weaving, Tasar business etc.

In Korba, there is one cocoon bank established at Katghora for improving the marketing of tasar and mulberry cocoons/yarns. This centre gathers cocoons from cultivators through co-operative societies and distributes to weavers at the rate fixed by the Government.

The sericulture is considered as one of the most benefited scheme for the tribals of this district.

Tasar Yard Production Training Program

Korba Sericulture department conducts a two-month training program for women in every year. The department provides a stipend of Rs. 250 per month for the selected trainees.  Those who successfully complete the training are given reeling machines by the department

 

Approximately fifty women successfully complete this training and attain its benefits every year.
