The
District Korba is blessed with rich mineral deposits and has attracted large scale
investments in Aluminum, Coal and Power Sectors. These
investments have enabled Korba to emerge as a major industrial hub in
central India. The
industry department of Korba has a well developed industrial area spread in 100
acres, where various types of industries and ancillary units are
functioning. Also some efforts
are going on to acquire more land for this purpose. 1962 units are registered under SSI sector
(including SSSBES, tiny and Cottage
Industries) and 6 major companies in large/medium sectors. Out of these,
there are 9 ancillary units of BALCO, 3 ancillaries of I.B.P and 14
ancillaries of S.E.C.L. The large companies/plants that are operating in Korba are:-·

Hasdeo Thermal Power corporation Besides,
some large cement plants are located in close proximity to Korba.
Korba has a well developed Kosa silk industry also. Along
with this large firms, there are several large and medium scale enterprises
(SMEs) operating in Korba. The 'Zila Udyog Sangh (ZUS)' is an industrial association
of local SMEs in Korba. |
