Korba Action Plan

For prevention and control of air and water pollution from 5 major polluting industries viz. NTPC, CSEB (East), CSEB (West), BALCO and BCPP , in Korba a time bound action plan has been prepared and accordingly action is being taken

 

CREP

Charter on Corporate Responsibility for Environmental Protection (CREP) is a time bound action plan for mitigation of environmental pollution has been framed by the MoEF, GOI for 17 types of polluting industries viz. thermal power plants, aluminum industries etc. All the four major power plants and one Aluminum industry – BALCO in Korba are covered under CREP and accordingly action is being taken

Fly Ash Utilisation

MoEF, GOI vide its notification dated 14 September 1999 and 27 August 2003 has directed all *TPPs, Govt./Semi Govt. Departments for 100% utilization and safe disposal of fly ash.

Collector Korba vide its order dated 24 June 2003 has directed all Govt. agencies involved in the construction activities to utilize fly ash bricks only in the district and accordingly action being taken

Fixed Chimney Brick Plant

As per directions of MoEF New Delhi only brick plants with fixed chimney with air pollution control measures and 25 % utilization of fly ash are being allowed in Korba district. Three entrepreneurs have been granted consent to establish brick kilns with fixed chimney and 25 % utilization of fly ash. Rajendra Prasad Gupta, Tehsil Pali has established a fixed chimney brick plant, which is the first of its kind in district Korba.

 

ECO-Club

Fifty students each of 150 schools in Korba district are members of ECO-Club. Various awareness programmes relating to environmental conservation are carried out through these ECO-Clubs.

 

Awareness Programmes

Multifarious activities regarding environmental protection and prevention on 5th June World Environment Day, 16 September Ozone Layer Conservation Day, are conducted for environmental awareness.

 

Waste Management

Biomedical Waste Management

A common treatment and disposal facility for biomedical waste has been established at Barbaspur village in Korba by M/s Chhattisgarh Environment Consultancy, Kharsia, Raigarh

 

Hazardous Waste Management

Thirteen industries of district Korba have been authorized by Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board for management and handling of hazardous waste as per the provision of Hazardous Waste Management and Handling Rules 1989 and amended as on 2002 and 2003.

 

Municipal Solid Waste Management

Municipal Corporation, Korba has been authorized by the Board for management and handling municipal solid wastes and development of land fill site at Barbaspur, Korba.
